Celebrating our international staff

NUH held a tea party to celebrate their international staff as part of ‘Nursing Excellence Week’.

Staff from across QMC and City Hospital came to James Unit at the City Hospital to celebrate the contribution of international staff to ‘Team NUH’.

Staff dressed in traditional clothes and enjoyed food, music and dancing from across the world.

Sue Haines, Assistant Director of Nursing said: “The event celebrated the diversity of staff, skills and cultures that make up Team NUH. As an NHS we couldn’t function without our international work force so we really wanted to say thank you and celebrate.”

The International Celebration was organised by the new Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Shared Governance Council.

Marva Duncan, Chair of the Nottingham Branch of the Royal College of Nursing and member of the BAME Council said: “We want to explore some of the stories of our international staff members. We are aiming to break down barriers and make sure that our international colleagues have the same opportunities in their roles.”

The event was in honour of International Thursday as part of Nursing Excellence week, which has also included International Day of the Midwife, Magnet Wednesday and will round up with International Nursing Day and the Nurse & Midwife of the Year Awards on 15 May.

Dr  Kerry Jones, Magnet Programme Director said: “This week is about recognising and celebrating of contribution and impact nurses and midwives make at NUH, nationally and across the globe.

"We are using this week to share developments and achievements in our journey to be recognised internationally for care excellence.”
