Acute Cardiac Unit
Visiting times
In order to protect the safety of our patients please note the following changes:
Many of our visiting restrictions are still in place, although patients in the following categories may have visitors at the discretion of the Nurse in Charge. This is in line with the compassionate visiting guidance which has been issued nationally.
- Patients at End of Life: These patients should be allowed open visiting where possible. One, or a maximum of two visitors at a time may visit throughout the day (and night if appropriate). This can be different members of the family.
- Patients with a learning disability and patients with dementia: Each patient should be assessed and visiting discussed and agreed with their immediate family. Visiting times should be allowed on an individual basis depending on the patient’s needs.
- Maternity: During labour and birth one nominated partner will be allowed throughout the mother’s stay on the labour ward/midwifery led unit .
We ask that the public respect these rules during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ACU is an eight-bed Coronary Care Unit located in the Trent Cardiac Centre. It cares for patients requiring level 1-2 care - the highest level. Patients may be transferred in as emergency admissions with acute cardiac problems such as myocardial infarction. They may require further treatment such as coronary angioplasty. Occasionally, patients requiring urgent/emergency cardiac surgery or higher levels of support will be transferred to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).
