Celebrating the remarkable achievements of Team NUH’s long-serving staff

The hard work and dedication of staff who have clocked up a combined 5,950 years’ of service to Nottingham’s hospital and the NHS was celebrated tonight at a special awards ceremony.

Over 100 staff who work for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), including Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham City Hospital and Ropewalk House, marked 25 to 40 years’ of service to the Trust and Nottingham’s NHS. At tonight’s event, they were acknowledged and thanked for their exceptional contributions to patient care.

Chris Cobb works as an Interventional Radiology Theatres Manager at QMC and is celebrating 25 years’ continuous service. He said: “The people I have worked with over the years are the reason I have stayed at NUH. Right from being in plain-film radiography, to working in CT and then Interventional Radiology Theatres - I have always worked with people who have had been so professional and made some great friends, who have been so supportive of each other.”

The Awards also celebrated those who started their career at NUH 40 years ago. Judith Black, a Theatre Recovery Practitioner at City Hospital, began her career after completing her nurse training in 1977 – before QMC had even been built.

Judith was one of the 23 staff recognised this year for dedicating over four decades to the Trust. As one of our longest-serving staff members, Judith shared some of the things that she has been most proud of during her last four decades at NUH: “I am proud of lots of things – it’s hard to choose one. However, I am very proud of remaining in a clinical role and being able to deliver hands-on care to patients.

“Throughout my career working for the NHS there has been many opportunities to progress and work in managerial roles - maybe I should have tried something different and at one point I considered working abroad - but life happens…and I am grateful that I still enjoy the work that I do, as it gives me the opportunity to meet so many people, from all walks of life.”

Tracy Taylor, NUH Chief Executive, said: “We are incredibly proud of every member of Team NUH for their dedication to NUH and for their determination to deliver the very best care for our patients and continuously improve our services.  It was a pleasure and privilege to host this evening’s awards, in the company of so many long serving colleagues who make this organisation the special place it is to work.”

The Trust’s Long Service Awards were made possible thanks to support from QMC League of Friends and the City League of Friends, which are run entirely by volunteers. You can find out more about the Leagues and how you can get involved here.
