Blog post: Ward Sister Janet Hagan speaks about her 35 year career at our hospitals

In a new series of blog posts for Nottinghm Children's Hospital (NCH), we have a sit down with Janet Hagan, a Ward Sister at NCH, to find out about her career, why she's proud to be part of Team NUH and what she thinks about the Pathway to Excellence survey.

Janet has worked at the Trust for 35 years and says she is immensely proud to work here.

“I joined Nottingham University Hospitals Trust in August 1985 and I haven’t looked back since.

“My primary role is to care for children and young people from birth to 19 years old. It can be a tough but incredibly challenging job.

“I am also responsible for the running of the ward and leader and manager of all the staff.

“I think the reason why I have stayed at the hospital for so long is because I love the NCH’s team. I believe that they value me and my work.

“We are coming up to crucial time as we head to achieve our Pathway to Excellence accreditation.

“I have been involved in our Pathway since the beginning. It is a huge piece of work but it is exciting to be a part of.

“I am part of what we call our “Eagle” committee, this is where we make high-level discussions and have discussions on what we need to achieve our accreditation.

“I am also part of the small team helping the staff get ready for the big survey date which starts on 16th June and runs for three weeks.

“I believe that Pathway is important because it is further recognition of all the hard work and excellent care that we all give day in day out – especially during a global pandemic!

“From my years of working here I think that it would mean that NCH is the best, in my eyes, and hopefully people would want to come and work here and parents and families will be happy to be cared for here."

A final message from Janet: “We can achieve this we can do it. We are survey ready!”
