Getting help is often one of the most important but difficult steps in overcoming addiction. That is why we are here to help you get the help and support you need for things like smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, and gambling addictions.

Free support is there for you if you are struggling with addiction. Take a look at the support offered below to help you.

Support to Stop Smoking

Staff of NUH can find out about support to stop smoking through your line manager or by emailing smokefree@nuh.nhs.uk, even if you live outside of Nottingham!

You can also get three months of access to the Pro features of the Smoke Free app and a 12-week free supply of nicotine replacement products or a vale and e-liquid refills. All this and 24/7 access to expert stop-smoking advisors for support when you need it most. Click here to receive your download link for the app, available on iPhone and Android.

Support for Alcohol Abuse and Family Groups

The Alcohol Care Team (ACT) is located within NUH, and you can access their page by searching "Alcohol" on the intranet. The ACT has a leaflet that details the benefits of cutting down and relevant support services located in Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Derby, and Leicester. For family and friends of alcoholics, support is available to get help through information and groups such as Al-Anon UK. You can find out more about their support groups near you by clicking here. They additionally offer a helpline at 0800 0086 811.

Support for Gambling Addiction

Gambling can harm you in all areas of your life, not just your finances. It can cause issues with your relationships and your physical and mental health. If you're not sure if gambling is causing issues for you, visit the NHS Help with Problems with Gambling website by clicking here.

If you live in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, or Rutland, you get free access to the East Midlands Gambling Harms Service, which provides treatment for gambling issues, including workshops and therapies delivered by phone or MS Teams.
