Children’s Surgery and Anaesthesia

It is a good idea to explain to your child that they are going to have an operation in advance. Talking with your child about it beforehand will help reduce anxiety.

Children pick up on parents' anxiety so it is important to appear calm and relaxed. Find a good time when you are not likely to be interrupted. Use simple age appropriate language to explain what is going to happen.

If your child has any questions, try to answer them honestly.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists website has useful guides for children that explain the proccess of anaesthesia.
