Children's Neuro-oncology
The Children’s Oncology service at QMC's Nottingham Children’s Hospital treats all solid tumours, central nervous system (CNS) tumours and the initial work up of children with non-malignant diagnoses initially thought to be malignant. Brain tumours are the most common tumours that develop in children therefore research is encouraged. There is an active programme between the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre, the University of Nottingham and our hospitals.
E40 is the only children’s ward in England that removes a brain tumour and treats the tumour with chemotherapy on the same ward. In other hospitals, after tumour resection, a child would be moved to the oncology ward for further treatment.
