Hereditary breast cancer
The resources below have been developed to support the implementation of mainstream genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and Derbyshire. This includes:
- R208 Panel: BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, ATM, RAD51C, RAD51D, CHEK2
- R444.1 Panel: BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2
This approach is referred to as Mainstreaming Cancer Genetics (MCG) and enables genetic testing to be offered directly through cancer services. The model has been successfully adopted by other centres, including The Royal Marsden Hospital.
The materials provided here are adapted from published resources developed by the Marsden team and tailored for use within our Trust and the district hospitals we support. They are designed for use by any specialist nurse or clinician involved in the care of patients with breast cancer.
Please note: RAD51C, RAD51D, ATM, and CHEK2 were added to the R208 panel in our region from 1 January 2023.
