The Care Excellence Team
The Care Excellence team works to promote, identify and celebrate excellent care across Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), including in the Children’s Hospital and Maternity Services. Our team exists to continue the work that NUH has been doing for over 10 years to provide excellent care and successfully achieve maintaining the Pathway to Excellence Recognition® for the Children’s Hospital in 2020. This journey focused our attention particularly on excellence within three areas - patient outcomes, patient experience and staff experience
Our workstream weaves its way throughout the 4 pillars of practice represented by the Institute of Care Excellence: Research and Innovation, Education, Leadership at All Levels and Advanced Practice, all of which form a part of the Care Excellence journey.
To patients, our workstream means receiving the very best care, delivered by nurses and interdisciplinary teams who are supported to be the very best they can be.
To staff, our workstream means working in a culture of shared decision-making, education and development through every career stage and support for evidence-based practice, research and innovation leading to greater autonomy at the bedside.
Reward and recognition
A key part of our Care Excellence journey is recognising and rewarding Nurses and the wider nursing team for outstanding practice. The way NUH does this is through the DAISY and TULIP awards. Each month patients and NUH colleagues nominate staff members who have gone above and beyond in their care for patients and one another. These staff members are recognised through a ceremony conducted in the clinical area by the Chief Nurse.

Pathway to Excellence® Recognition
In August 2020 the Nottingham Children’s Hospital and Sexual Health Services (part of NUH) were delighted to receive notification that they had achieved Pathway to Excellence® recognition. This prestigious award recognises a commitment to developing positive practice environments and achieving high levels of staff satisfaction.
