Return to training

Supported Return to Training (SuppoRTT) Programme

The Supported Return to Training (SuppoRTT) Programme at NUH aims to provide bespoke support for each resident doctor or dentist returning to training after a period of absence for three months or more. There are many reasons why doctors take time out training which include:

  • Parental leave, adoption leave, carers leave
  • Ill health
  • Out of Programme (OOP) for research, training, career break, experience or a pause in training

There is a team dedicated to supporting doctors returning to training at NUH that includes:

  • SupoRTT Champion
  • Postgraduate Medical Education Team

We are here to support your smooth and confident return to training. Examples of SuppoRTT include:

  • A period of enhanced supervision
  • SuppoRTT days designed to refresh your skills, boost confidence and build new networks
  • Development workshops
  • Signposting to other support and advice
  • Support and training for supervisors
  • Tailored one to one comms practice sessions
  • Skills refresher training

Curriculum Study Leave

Study Leave (now called 'Curriculum Study Leave') is available to each trainee throughout their training programme in addition to holiday entitlement. It is intended to allow trainees to address areas of professional development relevant to their chosen career that will enhance the learning and experience from their training programme.
