Our clinical research Annual Report for 2020-21 is published
A year of research when it mattered most
Over 12,000 patients contributing to our clinical studies – including around 10,250 patients recruited into COVID-19 trials – were among the headlines during an extraordinary year for clinical research at NUH.
NUH was at the forefront of researching new treatments for COVID-19, as well as contributing to research which led to the development of COVID-19 vaccines.
And the achievements of our research staff are highlighted in the Research & Innovation Annual Report for 2020-21, which is now available to read and download from the NUH website: https://www.nuh.nhs.uk/reports-and-publications-ri
The report is published every year to celebrate the scientific and medical advances developed by staff and patients at NUH. As a teaching hospital, research into new treatments, medical technology and therapies is central to the care we provide to our patients.
It reflects on an exceptional year for research in Nottingham as Professor Stephen Ryder, Clinical Director for Research & Innovation, explains: “Never has the importance and direct impact of clinical research been more apparent than throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It has been a particular source of pride that Nottingham has been able to make such a significant contribution to the national, regional and local efforts to find effective treatments, rapidly build up our knowledge and most importantly contribute to the development of vaccines.
“We want to again thank and pay tribute to all of those who have made our toughest, but also our most important 12-months of clinical research possible.”
