Audiology accreditation

Hearing services in Nottingham have been nationally recognised as providing high quality care.

The Audiology Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has become one of the few organisations in the UK to achieve Improving Quality in Physiological Services accreditation.

Claire Benton, Head of Audiology at the Trust, said the accreditation is seen nationally as a sign of a safe and quality service.

She said: "It really is an achievement made by all the staff here - both clinical and the admin staff. In the UK there are not many NHS audiology services who have gained accreditation

"Gaining this has been down to the very hard work of the staff here in Audiology - it has involved changing their practice and ways of working and now we can work towards a system of continuous improvement in the service."

The accreditation by United Kingdom Accreditation Service recognises the services at Ropewalk House and Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Queen's Medical Centre. It covers adult hearing aid work, adult assessments, paediatric services, vestibular service, and adult complex work (e.g. tinnitus).

Simon Parsons, the Divisional Director for Surgery which provides audiology services, said: "We are very proud of the work that Claire and the team have done. They work incredibly hard to deliver excellent care and the feedback from patients is overwhelming positive.

"They make a real tangible difference to the lives of people in the East Midlands and it is very welcome that they have been recognised in this way."
