If you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) – a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of smell or taste (anosmia) – the advice is to stay at home for 10 days. All members of this household should remain at home for 14 days.

If you think you have symptoms, please do not attend your hospital appointment until you are advised it is safe to do so. Please contact us to rearrange your appointment, or to re-organise treatment and tests.

Pre-Operative Assessment Unit

The Pre-Operative Assessment Service is based on the Edward Unit at Nottingham City Hospital and on Ward B50 at QMC. It covers Pre-Operative Assessment for a range of specialties. All adult patients planning to have an operation or surgical procedure under a general anaesthetic or spinal anaesthetic within any of thee specialties will be invited to attend a Pre-Operative Assessment.

The assessment is carried out before surgery to ensure:

  • Patients are fully informed about the procedure and their post-operative recovery
  • Patients' health is the best it can be before surgery
  • Suitable arrangements have been made for admission, discharge and post-operative care at home

The assessment will take place after the patient and their consultant have decided that an operation or procedure is necessary.
