Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is proud to again launch the Nurse and Midwife of the Year (NAMY) Awards, in partnership with the Nottingham Post and Nottingham Express Transit (NET).
Now entering their fifth year, the awards return to give the public the opportunity to celebrate the amazing nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants (HCAs) from Nottingham’s hospitals who have gone the extra mile to provide for patients and their families.
There are nine different awards in which NHS nurses and midwives will be honoured. They are:
Nominations for this year’s awards are now open and provide an opportunity for the public to say thank you to a nurse or midwife from NUH for providing outstanding care and support.
Professor Mandie Sunderland, Chief Nurse, said: “I’m delighted that the Nurse and Midwife of the Year Award gives the public the opportunity to say thank you to these wonderful NHS professionals.”
“The nurses, midwives and HCAs at our hospitals and in the community provide outstanding care for our patients and their families on a daily basis and I’m pleased that the same patients and families can show how much they are valued by nominating them for these awards.”
To show appreciation to our dedicated nurses and midwives, the winner from each of the categories will be chosen by the public. The nominee who receives the most votes in total across all of the categories will also be named as the Nurse or Midwife of the Year.
NUH’s awards partnership with NET will mean that the overall winner will have the honour of having a Nottingham tram named after them for 12 months.
Luisa Avanzado, last year’s overall winner, said: “I was very honoured and humbled to win last year’s award as I was up against so many wonderful colleagues.”
Luisa, who is a staff nurse at Nottingham City Hospital, added: “These awards make you very proud to be in the profession as they remind everyone of the commitment and dedication shown by nurses and midwives every single day.”
Of the tram-naming ceremony, Luisa said: “I attended a ceremony with family and friends and watched the unveiling of the Luisa Avanzado tram – a slightly surreal but nonetheless special moment.”
Nominations will close on August 30 and after being shortlisted, the voting will reopen on Monday 16 September for the public to pick their winner.
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to a special awards ceremony, which will be held on Monday 14 October at Crowne Plaza, Nottingham, where the winners will be announced.
