24 Hours in A&E latest episode: Picking up the pieces

The RTS award-winning documentary, 24 Hours in A&E, is back at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham - one of the busiest A&E departments in Europe. A place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every single day.

On a day where the hospital is overstretched and pushed to its limit, this episode follows Major Trauma Consultant Rory and the team trying to manage the ever-increasing patient numbers, whilst we hear stories from people who have had to pick up the pieces after facing the most difficult times in their lives.

84-year-old Jeremy and his wife, 85-year-old Patricia, are rushed into QMC after being involved in a high-speed car crash. Doctors are concerned Jeremy’s history of cancer could affect his recovery, whilst the emergency medical team try to determine the full extent of Patricia’s spinal injury. As the couple are treated, their son, Ben, reveals the heartbreaking turmoil the family faced when he was growing up.

45-year-old Andrew is in resus after falling 3 meters from a ladder while at work. Having seriously fractured his ankle; doctors need to urgently realign his bones before emergency surgery. As he is treated, his stepbrother, Ian, talks about a tragic loss in Andrew’s life.

24 Hours in A&E has become a beloved Channel 4 documentary, with over 300 episodes showcasing the reality of emergency care.
