1000th person gets Covid vaccination at NUH

The Covid-19 vaccination programme at Nottingham University Hospitals reached a significant milestone on Friday 11th December with the 1000th person to be vaccinated.
Fiona Hodgkinson, a Care Home worker from Westcliffe Care Home in Radcliffe-on-Trent, received the vaccination on Friday afternoon at the Queen's Medical Centre.
Asked how she felt about having her Covid-19 vaccination Fiona said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be the 1000th person vaccinated at NUH. I’m thrilled that we can now do this and that the vaccine is in this country, it’s fantastic”.
Did she have any doubts about coming forward? “No, I couldn’t wait to get it, and I think as many people as possible should get their vaccination too. It’s great news for our residents and other older, more vulnerable people who are the biggest concern. This is a real turning point in terms of trying to keep Covid out of care homes, to protect our residents. Their safety is our number one priority, so all of our staff are having the vaccination as soon as possible”.
Fiona has a simple message for anyone else considering getting their Covid vaccination, either at a hospital hub if they are a health and social care worker, a hospital patient over 80, or others once the community vaccination programme gets under way at GP surgeries and vaccination centres:
“Definitely just go for it. We need to celebrate the fact that it’s here, and that everyone can have it. As soon as more people have it, we can look forward to life going back to normal”.
Fiona’s jab was delivered by nurse Antonietta Parker, who goes by Toni: “It’s great to see so many older people, care home staff and NHS staff at higher risk from Covid coming to be vaccinated. Everyone here is working so hard and it’s now a very well-oiled machine!”
NUH is one of the Hospital Hubs announced by the Government last week where the national Covid-19 vaccination programme got underway. Initially the focus of hospital hubs will be inpatients and outpatients over 80, Care Home staff and NHS staff at higher risk from Covid-19.
The vaccination programme will continue to be rolled out across the country to give everyone opportunity to be vaccinated, including in community settngs such as GP practices and specially set up vaccination centres.
