Palliative care offers support to people with incurable, progressive, life-threatening conditions who are living in their last years, months, weeks of life. Palliative care focuses on the holistic care of both the person and their significant others, looking at the quality of life of the whole person, including physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.
Palliative care is provided by all healthcare professionals across NUH. For some people where there is greater complexity, Specialist Palliative Care support is required.
At NUH Specialist Palliative Care is provided by a combination of services under the umbrella of Hayward House.
End of life care focuses on the last weeks, days, hours of life. It is provided by all NUH healthcare professionals, with Specialist Palliative Care supporting alongside.
