Assessing the impact of COVID-19 on mental health

Almost 350 NUH staff were quickly recruited to take part in the first round of this study, which was run at NUH during Spring and Summer this year.

Since then, the survey questions have been shortened to make it quicker to take part and now a second round of the study has now been opened in Nottingham.

Researchers will use this survey as a comparator with the first round to see how the first and second waves and the ever-changing guidelines relating to COVID-19 are impacting people’s mental health.

The survey is officially called the Psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic and experience: An international survey. NUH is one of several hospitals hosting the study on behalf of sponsors Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, working with the University of Portsmouth.

Principal Investigator Lindsay Crate (pictured) Clinical Research Manager in Research & Innovation at NUH said:

“People’s mental health is of more importance than ever before, and we would encourage our staff and their friends and relatives to take part in this online survey. The results will enable the study sponsor to provide input which may help to shape future mental health care.”

The survey includes questions to assess how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted on people’s mood in general, and whether the virus has had a knock-on effect on people’s overall wellbeing and lifestyles.

The inclusion criterion for this survey is broad. The aim is to capture the views of as many people as possible, and anyone aged 16 years and above can take part.

The study is exploring the psychological impact of COVID-19 on the general population, as well as individuals with pre-existing vulnerabilities and mental health conditions. People who have had COVID-19 and their families are able to participate, as well as healthcare professionals.

Staff in NUH Research & Innovation can access the survey and take part here or by scanning the QR code at the end of this article

Those who took part in the first round of the study earlier this year are still able to take part in this second round. Anyone new to th study can just take part in this second round.

You do not need to leave any information that would identify them personally when they take part in the study.
