This time next month, we should find out if some of Team NUH have been shortlisted for this year’s Parliamentary Awards!

MPs have officially submitted six NUH entries, which have gone to a national judging panel. One of the nominations taken forward is from the BAME Strategy Project Team, including the BAME Ambassadors.

The team, which has just received the NUH Empower Award, are hoping to pick up The Health Equalities Award for the work they are doing to bring equity to all staff at our hospitals.

BAME Strategy Project Lead, Halima Dagia:

“It’s amazing to feel recognised and we feel very proud. Making a difference makes us really happy.

“We’ve come so far and managed to achieve so much in the short time we’ve had the project; it means so much to us. I feel like we are making progress.”

The team, made up of Halima and her colleague Dr Liz Calderbank, have eight project priorities including increasing BAME representation within senior posts at NUH and reviewing HR policies and processes.

When Halima found out Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome had taken their nomination further, she couldn’t wait to tell her colleague:

“I rang my manager up, I needed to let her know! We’re going to keep our fingers crossed to actually win the award and plan what we’re going to wear!”

The shortlist is announced mid-June and the official ceremony is in early July.
