A colleague was invited this week to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, hosted by His Majesty The King and Queen Camilla, in recognition of her contribution to the NHS and the development of one of the country’s most significant rehabilitation projects.
Sandy Walsh, Head of Operations for the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) programme, attended the royal garden party on Wednesday, 6 May.
The invitation recognises years of work supporting the design and planning for the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), a 70-bed, state-of-the-art specialist rehabilitation centre for NHS patients who have experienced a life-changing illness or injury, run and staffed by NUH due to open this year.
As Head of Operations, Sandy has played a central role in shaping how the centre will function for patients, staff and partner organisations, helping to bring together clinical services, operational planning and patient-centred design to create a modern rehabilitation environment for the future.
Sandy said: “It was an incredible honour to be invited to a Royal Garden Party in recognition of my work with the NHS.
“The National Rehabilitation Centre has been a hugely important project, and I have been fortunate to work alongside outstanding colleagues and partners who are deeply committed to improving patient recovery and rehabilitation services across the country. This recognition reflects the dedication of everyone involved.
“It was a very special day and the atmosphere was excellent. We had the opportunity to engage with many of the other guests, showcasing the work of the NRC and highlighting the impact we are making within rehabilitation.”
The National Rehabilitation Centre is expected to become a leading hub for rehabilitation, innovation and research, supporting patients recovering from complex conditions including major trauma, neurological illness and life-changing injuries.
The Royal Garden Parties, hosted annually by the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace, celebrate individuals who have made a positive impact through public service, community leadership and professional achievement.
