New mural in Nottingham hospitals outpatients' department

A new vinyl print mural has been put up in the outpatient's department at City Hospital, to help the environment feel less clinical, and to give patients something to enjoy looking at while they wait for their appointments.
Adam Doran, is a keen fundraiser for Nottingham Hospitals Charity, having raised more than £50,000 in total. With the help of his friends and family, Adam has done a variety of fundraising campaigns in memory of his wife Clare who died from cancer in 2021.
His latest fundraiser is the Hike for your Hospitals campaign, and along with his friends and family he raised £3,025 specifically for this mural, by hiking up Snowdon, Kinder Scout and Scafell Pike.
After seeing the mural for the first time, Adam said: “It’s fantastic, it really brightens the place up. It looks like it has always been there. Hopefully it will prompt people’s interest in taking part in the Hike for your Hospitals campaign, as it such a positive way to bring people together and remember someone special whilst raising money for a great cause.”
The mural, which has been positioned high above the doorways, adding colour to the department, depicts people hiking across a hillside. It was designed by Lynne Hollingsworth, a local artist who does a lot of work in hospitals and care settings,
“I am absolutely delighted to be part of the mural project, and it has been great working with Adam and the NUH Arts team. I am going to look in to taking part in the Hike for your Hospitals campaign now, it has really inspired me.”
The mural has been created as part of the Arts at NUH programme, which is funded by Nottingham Hospitals Charity. The programme aims to enhance the wellbeing of patients, staff and visitors through creative engagement and participatory activities, providing opportunity for artistic expression, fostering a healing environment, and reducing stress.
Sam Cousens, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: "We are so grateful to Adam, his family and friends for raising such a phenomenal amount of money in memory of Clare. This wonderful mural is the latest of many projects across the hospital, funded by this fantastic group of fundraisers. We know art can have a hugely positive impact on wellbeing for patients and visitors, as well as staff, and we hope this mural will be enjoyed by many people and help make hospital visits a little brighter."
