#NAMY2019 shortlisted finalists revealed
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) has today announced the shortlisted candidates for the Nurse and Midwife of the Year (NAMY) Awards, held in partnership with Nottingham Express Transit (NET) and the Nottingham Post.
The expert judging panel – NUH’s Chief Nurse, Mandie Sunderland, Editor of the Nottingham Post, Mike Sassi, and Chief Executive of Tramlink Nottingham, Adrian Wallace – had the difficult job of choosing just four finalists in each category from over 300 patient, carer, family and colleague nominations.
The shortlisted candidates are as follows:
- Nursing Associate of the Year: Nicola Hempsall, Ben Whyler, Gregory Hall, Mandy Hemstock
- Adult Nurse of the Year: Rosemarie Fryer, Angela Knifton, Rachel Newton, Rebecca Barrett
- Midwife of the Year: Molly Povey, Jodi Merrington, Esther Mitchell, Chantelle Thornley
- Children’s Nurse of the Year: Debra Forster, Heather Baines, Sophie Robson, Terri Britton
- Student Nurse or Midwife of the Year: Inta McDonald, Josh Parker, Rhian Bryan, Ruby Newman
- International Nurse of Midwife of the Year: Samuel Osei, Michelle Bartley, Onyinye Enwezor, Asha Samuel
- Healthcare Assistant of the Year: Kimberley Beresford, Marcus Barton, Mary Keane, Yvonne Williscroft
- Nurse of Midwife Leader of the Year: Joanna Benson, Sarah Moppett, Clare Mayfield, James Pratt
- Chief Nurse’s Award for Excellence: Kate Wilson, Sarah Brand, Lesley Reilly, Aquiline Chivinge
It’s now over to the people of Nottingham to choose their care heroes, with online voting opening on Monday (16 September) via the Nottingham Post NAMY website.
As well as deciding the winner of each individual category, the nurse or midwife with the most public votes will receive the ‘Overall Winner’ accolade, and have a Nottingham tram named after them for a year.
Adrian Wallace, Chief Executive at NET concessionaire Tramlink Nottingham, commented: “We’re delighted to once again support the awards, ensuring deserved recognition for these unsung heroes while further strengthening the tram network’s close links with NUH.
“As polling opens in this year’s competition, we urge everyone to cast a vote and demonstrate their appreciation of the amazing nurses and midwives shortlisted. We know the judges had an incredibly difficult task drawing up the shortlist and wish all those nominated for an award the very best of luck.”
Nominations were received from hundreds of patients, carers, family members and visitors, as well as fellow staff members, who recognised the difference that Nottingham’s nurses, midwives, Nursing Associates and Healthcare Assistants have made to hundreds of lives.
Professor Mandie Sunderland, Chief Nurse at NUH, said: “Deciding on the shortlist for this year’s NAMY Awards was by no means an easy feat. It was a joy to read through the inspirational nominations from patients, the public, and colleagues for our nursing and midwifery staff.”
“I am delighted to present this year’s shortlist and I know that the public will have a difficult time deciding their winners. I’m sure the people of Nottingham and beyond will get behind the staff here at NUH and cast their vote when voting opens on Monday 16 September. A huge well done to all of our finalists.”
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to a special awards ceremony, which will be held on Monday 14 October at Crowne Plaza, where the winners will be announced.
