Our latest staff award winners - Team NUH Awards 2022
We are pleased to formally announce the Winners and Highly Commended staff so far in our Team NUH Awards programme, now its second year following a successful launch during the pandemic. Staff from across our hospitals in a variety of roles have been awarded, including nurses, physiotherapists, doctors and meal time assistants to name a few. Detailed below is the winner of each category, and a short blurb from their nomination, as well as the category sponsor.
Nominations for our awards are open all year round. Click here to find out more and submit a nomination.
Trust category, sponsored by Blue Light Card - Dr Ankit Rao, Consultant Oncologist
“Ankit treats all staff as valuable colleagues, staff love to work with him. It's very noticeable that those working with him appear to be more happy and motivated. His behaviour encourages others to be reliable, respectful and kind. Any registrar working under his supervision is very well supported and will gain so much value from his clinical experience and his professionalism.”
Empower category, sponsored by Nottingham Health Science Partners - Ruth Sturt, Clinical Specialist Stroke Physiotherapist
“She has exceptional clinical skills and every time I treat with her I learn something and it makes me want to better myself. Her commitment to her staff and patients goes above and beyond to ensure patients get the best possible outcomes. Ruth is a key driver in change for the service and ensuring the correct workforce planning/facilities are available to meet the needs of our patients. This has far reaching impact as it means the patients are being treated in the right place at the right time which is vital for stroke survivors.
Ambitious category, sponsored by Nottingham Health Science Partners - Phil Buttery and the Orthotics Workshop
“It is impossible to calculate the effects this has on families and they cherish the casts of their children. Phil and his team have volunteered to use the orthotics equipment to make memory casts for our families. These are hand and foot casts taken of babies and children that have passed away. The casts allow families to still be able to hold and touch their baby’s hands and feet and the impact on these families are immeasurable. They provide an outstanding service to families. Phil and his team have volunteered to do this at additional time pressures to their service. The department receives no funding and they have to calculate this into their working day.”
Mindful category - Tabitha Rae, Interventional Radiology Staff Nurse
“She will sit with patients, before and after procedures, giving them time to talk about whatever is going on that may be troubling them. She rejoices in other people’s good news, and is truly happy for them. She makes sure that people are heard. When working with Tabbie, it is obvious that caring is her true passion, and by making time for everyone, listening and being compassionate, I believe that she embodies what it is to be mindful of others.”
Nurturing category, sponsored by Tisski - Ami Wass, Food Service Assistant
“She ensures our frailer older patients have access to the foods that they like; she is keen to learn how things can be done better and is not satisfied with providing the bare minimum the hospital can offer. She is instrumental in our build up rounds, and will frequently organise extra snacks to ensure our patients get the extra calories they are desperate for. She is well and truly part of the team. Our patients are often admitted as an emergency and a lot are frail, older patients who have smaller appetites, Ami will spend a lot of time trying to find out what the patients like to eat and ensuring we have it for them.”
United category, sponsored by DrDoctor – Prioritisation of Cancer and Urgent Surgery Group (POCUS)
“POCUS formed in response to the pandemic March 2020 and comprises of clinical and admin staff from all divisions plus two lay representatives of the Ethics of Clinical Practice Committee. POCUS is an inspirational exemplar of compassionate partnership working for the benefit of patients needing urgent surgery, and in support of staff required to work differently. The group facilitates remarkable access to urgent surgery for cancer and other specialty patients ensuring restricted capacity is maximised. They promote support for patients facing delay and cancellation.”
Honest category, sponsored by Browne Jacobson - Sarah Henstock, Occupational Therapist
“Sarah is a hard working team member who puts our patients at the heart of all she does. She takes time with patients to listen and supports them towards their discharge.
She is a role model for junior therapists on the team who carry the values she has instilled in them to other areas of the Trust. She is particularly proactive in having students in the team. This has far reaching implications, as the students she trains go on to work across the country, and to inspire their own teams and students.”
Public Nominated category, sponsored by Nottingham Hospitals Charity – NUH Life Fertility
The nominator of this team said "I have been with the fertility unit for around a year. I can get quite anxious and worried about things. The staff at the fertility unit have supported me so well so far and I know that they are only a call or email away if I need them. Although I have not fell pregnant yet, the team have provided such amazing support and made me have hope through a tough time. I don’t know what my future holds and whether I will ever get a baby, but I know the fertility unit are right beside me."
