The nature of healthcare work means that it is energy intensive with electrical power needed to operate buildings and clinical and office equipment as well as heat to regulate building temperature for patients and staff.
In order to reduce our carbon footprint it is essential we make sure our buildings are more energy efficient. Our Green Plan outlines a few key steps to achieving that.
Making every unit of energy count
this includes:
Preparing buildings for electricity led heating
this includes:
Increasing on-site renewables
this includes:
The reconfiguration of services from the City Hospital to the QMC provides an ideal opportunity to make the improvements our buildings need with minimal disruption as vacant areas mean the energy efficiency work can be done.
Ultimately by taking this action we are future-proofing NUH, helping us heat our buildings better for less as well as reducing the Trust’s carbon footprint.
