Grease is coming to the big screen at Hayward House
An outdoor Cinema night took place at Nottingham City Hospital’s specialist palliative care unit, Hayward House in what is believed to be an NHS first.
The event is for end of life patients so they can spend precious time with loved ones and create memories otherwise not possible due to some patients not being able to leave hospital.
Catherine Daniels, Staff Nurse at Hayward House, was behind the idea of a Cinemna night. She said: “The idea came about as a few of our patients recently have had the opportunity to attend the cinema, and two different patients have been to the football, one Notts County and one Derby County. We were able to secure boxes for these patients as they are too unwell to watch the game in the stands and also we were also able to arrange and provide transport.
“We were so overwhelmed by peoples’ generosity and their want to help create special memories for these patients. So, we started thinking, how can we go the extra mile for our other patients whom are less mobile and less able to attend an event such as a football match?
“We just felt that it would be a perfect if we could create an opportunity for patients to create some special memories with their loved ones, and feel an ‘escape’ from a hospital environment, their illness and often poor prognosis – to give them some normality. “
