“From me on my birthday, to you on yours – Happy 72nd birthday NHS!”

Sue Clark, a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Receptionist at Nottingham University Hospitals, celebrates her 72nd birthday as the NHS turns 72.

Sue says:

“I always wanted to be a nurse from a very young age but circumstance at home in the 1960’s never allowed me to achieve my dreams.

After working in various roles not within healthcare I was determined to work in a hospital, so I applied for several NHS roles as they came up and was eventually successful in 1991 at the age of 42 years old.

Working in the NHS, particularly in my current role of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit receptionist, is challenging and emotional, yet greatly rewarding – it’s like being in a big family.

Nottingham University Hospitals feels like a second home to me, it’s where I love to be, and I miss my second family very much whilst I am at home following the national shielding guidance.

I hope that the National Health Service continues for another 72 years, and makes many others feel part of a very diverse, hard-working, dedicated and caring extended family!

Happy birthday NHS!”
