Covid-19 reflections: Recognising our achievements over the last year
This week we published a booklet, entitled 'Covid-19: A year on’, which showcases some of the incredible work accomplished by our staff during the last year.
The Covid-19 pandemic has been transformative, traumatic and testing for our teams and for the nation, and we will never forget the lives lost to Coronavirus, as well as all those who have been affected in many different ways. Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost loved ones during this time.
Over a year on from the beginning of the pandemic, we wanted to take the time to acknowledge all that our staff, with amazing support from our local communities, have accomplished.
This 29-page document, available to read here, offers an insight into the invaluable efforts undertaken by our staff, as they tirelessly battled against an unprecedented challenge. It provides a detailed monthly breakdown of significant dates and milestones, from March 2020 onwards, both nationally and for NUH, as our varied and vital teams adapted and adjusted to an ever-changing landscape of care, treatment and administration.
The sheer scale of what we have had to deal with is reflected in the fact that in our hospitals there were almost 1,200 Covid-related deaths between March 2020 and the end of March 2021.
Tracy Taylor, Chief Executive, said: “It is important that we take a moment to reflect, recognise and feel proud of the huge amount we have achieved over the last year, in spite of the scale of the challenges we faced, and this document is intended to provide a brief overview of some of those achievements. While it highlights the hard work of a number of teams, it is certainly not an exhaustive list.
“I would like to send a genuine and heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all of our incredible teams across Team NUH for the part you have played.”
