Celebrating long service at NUH: “I knew I was going to work at QMC”

Trisha Beresford, a Healthcare Assistant at QMC, remembers travelling past QMC as a child and telling her parents I am going to work there one day. Nearly 30 years later, Trisha has worked in various roles around the hospital.
Trisha received her 25 years Long Service Award at a celebratory afternoon tea this week which honoured 25, 35 and 40 years NHS service. In total the event celebrated nearly 1,300 years of service and was generously sponsored by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
Trisha said: “My proudest moment over the years was helping a teenager in A&E reconnect with her mum during a difficult time. It makes me well up even today.”
Tina Eddyshaw was also awarded a Long Service Award this week, for 40 years of service. Tina started working at City Hospital as an auxiliary nurse when caps were worn as part of the uniform.
Tina has worked in various roles and shift patterns over the years and is now the Deputy Service Manager in Outpatients.
Sue Carr, Senior Technical Cardiology Officer, said: “25 years has just flown by! I started with no qualifications and have trained on the job. Every day I wake up looking forward to work.”
Julie Nesfield started working in the NHS in 1999 and she celebrated 25 years of service. Julie began as a nurse on a surgical ward and is now a Clinical Educator in Gastrointestinal Services.
She said: “It all began when I saw the care my Grandmother received and thought I can do that. I have always loved the learning and sharing side of the job, so being a clinical educator is the perfect role for me.
“The most rewarding part is looking after patients, giving them the best care possible and building relationships.”
Other attendees at the celebratory event included Registered Nurse, Olive Manojlovic, who celebrated 40 years’ service.
Bel Asher, Acting Chief People Officer, Jack Adlam, Director of Communications and Engagement, and Tim Guyler, Director of Strategy and Integration, attended the event to celebrate and present the attendees with their NHS long service badge and a certificate.
In his opening speech, Jack said: “These awards are about the amazing contributions our long serving staff have given to NUH and the NHS. It is vital we thank and recognise the work you have done and continue to do."
Long service is celebrated at NUH once a quarter with an afternoon tea event and award presentations.
