Incident stood down 

We are pleased to say that this incident has been resolved and our Emergency Department is fully operational again, but remains exceptionally busy.  

Following a fire in the department on the evening of Friday 2 January, teams acted quickly to move a number of patients out of the department to continue to be cared for safely while the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue team responded to the fire.   During this time we are grateful to colleagues at East Midlands Ambulance Service for holding ambulance handovers.

We are now returning patients to the area, which is fully functional. 

We are hugely grateful to our NUH colleagues, and our partners at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and EMAS for their swift and professional response to help maintain safety for all of our patients, staff and visitors.

Public can continue to support us by choosing the right NHS service for them, including NHS 111.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue are currently investigating a potential fire in our Emergency Department at QMC.

We are prioritising looking after the patients currently in the department, which is very busy today.  We want to assure you that all our patients are safe and being looked after.

Please help us by avoiding attending QMC until this issue has been resolved, unless in a medical emergency. You can also help by not contacting the ward or hospital directly while we focus on responding to the incident – further updates will be provided.
