24 Hours in A & E returns tonight

The latest episode of 24 hours in A&E, which is back on our screens tonight, follows three patients who have been brought into Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) for urgent care.

The RTS award-winning documentary is back at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham - one of the busiest A&E departments in Europe. A place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every single day.

This episode follows the stories of patients whose lives have changed unexpectedly. They reflect on and celebrate how they have adapted and the challenges they’ve overcome.

28-year-old Max has been rushed to QMC after sustaining a head injury in a high-speed motorcycle crash.  As Max is treated, we hear from Max’s father Dave about their shared love of motorcycle racing, the setbacks they’ve faced and the high price they’re prepared to pay to continue competing in this dangerous sport.

75-year-old Stephanie is in resus after falling backwards down a full flight of stairs.  Her loving husband, James, waits anxiously for news as medics run a series of tests and scans to understand the extent of her injuries. While Stephanie is being cared for, we hear from James about their life together, the difficulties they faced during the miners’ strikes and how lucky he feels to have found such a supportive partner.

62-year-old Garry has sliced off his fingers

In the emergency department, 62-year-old Garry arrives with his amputated fingers in a bag of frozen peas after he sliced them off with a circular saw whilst chopping up firewood.  He tells us about his close relationship with his brother and how he was devastated when he got meningitis aged 16 and was left blind and mentally handicapped.

24 Hours in A&E has become a beloved Channel 4 documentary, with over 300 episodes showcasing the reality of emergency care.
