Nottingham and Nottinghamshire health and care system declares critical incident
The health and care system in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire has declared a critical incident due to continued and unprecedented pressure on its services.
We are continuing to see significant levels of Covid-19 in our hospitals, alongside high numbers of patients arriving at our hospitals for other conditions. There are extended waiting times to access beds within our hospitals. This, paired with difficulties in discharging patients due to a lack of capacity across our care sector as well as staff absence due to Covid-19 is causing a significant strain on the system.

Investment into a new 20-bed ward and surgical theatres building will bring exciting career opportunities at Nottingham hospitals later this year.
The ward and theatres - currently under construction - are set to open at City Hospital in autumn, and will support the Digestive Diseases specialties within the surgical division. They are part of the Trust’s drive to address the long waits for planned operations resulting from the pandemic, and will provide vital capacity to respond to future demand.

Nurse Kathryn Fry retires after a 50-year career on Friday – retiring from the ward she trained on all those years ago.
Kathryn started out as a 16-year-old nursing cadet at the Convent Hospital in Nottingham, earning £5 a week - and trained as an SEN on Simpson One at City – now the Elective Admissions Lounge where Kathryn has worked for the last 12 years.

Patients across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are seeing the longest waiting times for operations and treatments cut – as staff work tirelessly to drive down hospital waiting times.
New NHS performance figures show that Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) oversaw 15,720 elective procedures in May, and had 488 cancer patients start treatment.
