A mum given three months to live in January 2020 is now cancer free – and has returned to Nottingham hospitals to thank the people who saved her life.

Caroline Guy, 56, was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, which had spread to her ovaries and her liver. After extensive surgery at the Queen’s Medical Centre six weeks ago, she is cancer free and living life to the full. Her symptoms were initially dismissed by a GP as menopausal.

The people at NUH who made oustanding contributions to clinical research in the last year have been recognised by staff, patients and the public.

In her Birthday Honours, the Queen as recognised two members of staff from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Emma Hopewell has never met the Queen but she did get her head stuck in the railings outside Buckingham Palace when she was seven.

Gill Godsell, Consultant nurse at NUH, met the Queen 20 years ago when she got her OBE, a day she will never forget, “It was amazing. I took my three children and I felt so proud!”
