Nottingham Hospitals celebrate over 3,500 admin and clerical colleagues

Today, Wednesday 24 April, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), is celebrating the work of over 3,500 admin and clerical colleagues.

National Administrative Professionals Day recognises the work of admin colleagues who ensure services across NUH run smoothly for patients and staff.

Teresa Healey has been a Medical Secretary in the Renal Department since 2016 and worked within the NHS for over 40 years. Teresa began her NUH career in the Outpatient Department as a Medical Records Clerk.

“Working in the NHS for such a long time, I have seen an amazing amount of progress and I think the NHS is just brilliant,” said Teresa.

Teresa is soon to receive a long service award to acknowledge her dedication and valuable contribution throughout her career.

“I absolutely love talking to the patients, it is my favourite part of the job. I get great satisfaction being able to help others and that is what my role is all about.

“In my current role with the Renal Department you need to have specific knowledge so you can direct patients to the most appropriate place. This is something I have learnt over the years, but mainly I am providing reassurance and a friendly voice at the end of a phone for patients.

“It is also about supporting colleagues, corresponding with other departments and GPs. Teamwork is a major part of my role, and I love it. We are all working together to help patients and give them the best possible care.”

Administrative Professionals Day has been celebrated for over 70 years and these staff members continue to make a significant contribution to the NHS.

Anthony May OBE DL, Chief Executive at NUH, said: “There are more than 3,500 colleagues engaged in administrative and clerical work across NUH. These colleagues are often the first point of contact with our patients and the public, and we rely heavily on their skills and expertise. Colleagues do an amazing job, and we couldn’t operate the Trust without them.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you all.”

Teresa added, “I have spent a long time working in the NHS, it has been an extremely rewarding career and one I have really enjoyed.

“If you are thinking about joining the NHS in admin or clerical role - go for it! You will be supported and encouraged, and there is always an opportunity to progress”

If you are inspired by Teresa’s story, NUH has a wide range of opportunities available in both clinical and non-clinical roles. For more information visit https://www.nuh.nhs.uk/careers
