Paying for childcare
Childcare vouchers (Kiddivouchers)
Staff can exchange part of their salary for KiddiVouchers, potentially making significant cost savings. These are simple to order and can be used to pay for most forms of childcare for children up to 16 years including nurseries, child minders, after school schemes and Ofsted registered nannies.
Further guidance is available at www.hmrc.gov.uk. Staff can also contact KiddiVouchers on 0845 094 1412 or www.kiddivouchers.com, quoting scheme number S981971G.
Nursery education grant
If your child is three or four years old they are entitled to a funded nursery educated place for up to five sessions of two and a half hours per week. The childcare provider must be accredited to receive the nursery education grant.
Discounts on childcare
Childcare providers may offer discounts to NHS employees. Please discuss these with your chosen childcare provider directly.
Childcare grant allowance for students
A means-tested childcare allowance is available for NHS-funded students to meet up to 85 per cent of childcare costs (up to £114 per week for one child or £170 per week for two or more children).
It is available for children under 15 or under 17 if the child has special needs. For more information go to www.surestart.gov.uk or call 0845 009 2559.
