Professor Harish Vyas

Professor Vyas received his medical degree from Guys Hospital, London and has been trained at the Westminster Childrens Hospital, Great Ormond Street hospital and at Nottingham Childrens Hospital. He was an MRC Research Fellow in Nottinghamfor three years completing his research in the understanding of physiological changes of breathing at birth and resuscitation in the newborn. He completed his Intensive Care and Respiratory training at Great Ormond Street hospital. He has over 30 years of experience in paediatrics including paediatric intensive care. He also has a long track record of paediatric research. Selections of his published papers are listed in the research section.


Dr Patrick Davies

Dr Davies initially trained in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, but was lured in to Paediatric Intensive Care in 2008. He trained at Nottingham University, before working in Cambridge, St Marys, Sydney, Bristol, and Birmingham. He has a strong interest in pragmatic research, and regularly supervises small projects on the PICU. He enjoys many sports including touch rugby, cycling on or off road, snowboarding, and kite surfing, and when not at work spends his time running around his surprisingly large family.


Dr Simona Lampariello (Unit lead)

  • La Sapienza University Rome
  • Nottingham PICU since 4/2008  

Dr S Lampariello did her medical training in Rome, Italy, followed by Specialty Training in Paediatrics. In 1998 she moved to London and trained in Paediatric Intensive Care at St Marys, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. She was appointed as a Consultant in Nottingham in 2008. She is currently the Unit Lead and is responsible for the PIC retrieval service. One of Simona's main interests outside work is tennis, as well as trekking and music.


Dr Shri Alurkar 

  • Dr Alurkar has been working with us as a locum consultant since June 2012, and was appointed as a substantive consultant in March 2013


Dr Dusan Raffaj 

  • Dr Raffaj has been working with us as a locum consultant since June 2012 and was appointed as a substantive consultant in March 2013


We have six Registrars and six Senior House Officers who are each on a full shift rota. We have at least one doctor on the unit at all times.
