MEDIA STATEMENT: Death of a patient with COVID-19

Thursday 9 April 2020

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director at Nottingham University Hospitals said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further four patients have died having tested positive for COVID-19.  Regrettably that means that 72 COVID-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.”

“The patients were aged 53 and 82, and died on the 7th April.”

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

·         We will not be giving out any further information on these patients.

·         The media are asked to respect the wishes of the family / families, and the interests of staff at the hospital to avoid any disruption to operational services.

·         Delays in deaths being reported can occur for a number of reasons, for example an individual is tested post-mortem or difficulties in tracing and informing family members.
