Staff at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust fundraising to help India’s Covid-19 crisis

To mark International Nurses day staff at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust are launching an appeal to help people in India who are dealing with the Covid-19 crisis.

The hospital’s BAME Shared Governance Council - in collaboration with the Institute of Care Excellence – is raising funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee, a charity who organise disaster relief worldwide to be there for people in desperate need.

The money will go towards providing medical supplies, treatment facilities and logistics, support to the overwhelmed health services.

With hospitals across India overwhelmed and basic resources exhausted, millions of families abroad have had to watch the situation from afar in their hometowns.

Aquiline Chivinge MBE Clinical Lead Shared Governance and Leadership NIHR 70@70 Senior Nurse, and Onyinye Enwezor BEM Chair of BAME Shared Governance Council said:

“It was important for us to set up this page to show support to our colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

“At NUH we have many colleagues who are either from India or who have family and friends living in the country. We value the contribution from our colleagues from India and will continue to offer them pastoral support.

“May marks the annual celebrations of the International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses day and we wanted to use this time recognise those in need and to giving something back.

“With your help, we can do more to help the most vulnerable communities as they face this incredibly difficult situation.”

Sarah Moppett, Interim Chief Nurse at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, said: “Our hearts go out to those in India who are facing an extremely challenging time. Our nurses from India  are an extremely important and valued part of our  workforce and we wanted to show our support for them. Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by what’s happening."
