Know more, go more: AccessAble celebrates 10 year NUH partnership

To celebrate a decade long partnership, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) have re-launched their Accessibility Guide under the AccessAble brand.

NUH have been working in partnership with AccessAble (formerly DisabledGo) since 2009, producing free Detailed Access Guides to over 350 wards, departments and services at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital.

This trailblazing partnership set a new standard for providing detailed, accurate access information to hospitals and health services – a template which is now used by 60 NHS Trusts across the UK.

The Guides include facts, figures and photographs to help you plan your journey to, and around the hospitals, covering everything from parking facilities to hearing loops, and walking distances to accessible toilets.

Dr Gregory Burke, Founder of AccessAble said:

“Our 10-year partnership with NUH has been ground-breaking. Back in 2009, the concept of providing in-depth access information for a site so complex was utterly unheard of.

Together - harnessing AccessAble’s expertise and our shared commitment to a great patient experience for all - we have built an access information model that has been followed by NHS Trusts across the country.

Our partnership created the blueprint for providing Detailed Access Guides to wards and departments, giving patients, visitors and staff the confidence to plan a visit or discuss reasonable adjustments - making a visit less anxious, painful and difficult.

Every year over the past decade, we have worked in partnership with this visionary Trust, local disabled people and carers to further develop our Detailed Access Guides, website and App to ensure it delivers the crucial information people need most in the best possible way. It is a fantastic achievement.”

Giles Matsell, Head of Equality and Diversity at NUH said:

“We’re really pleased to be renewing our partnership with AccessAble, to provide Detailed Access Guides to benefit our patients and visitors.

With 26 miles of corridors at QMC alone, finding your way around our sites can be challenging. AccessAble is an essential resource for anyone with accessibility requirements, to make your visit as manageable and stress-free as possible.”

It’s also available via the AccessAble App which is free to download from the App Store and Google Play, giving you accessibility information at your fingertips during your hospital visit.

The information to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s sites joins over 125,000 places already covered across the UK, making www.AccessAble.co.uk a great tool for planning a day out or trip away.
