Digital Services shortlisted for the 2019 HSJ Awards

The Digital Services team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) have been shortlisted for Digitising Patient Services Initiative award at this year’s HSJ Awards, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare.

The judging panel, made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, have shortlisted NUH’s Digital Services team despite the tough competition from hundreds of excellent applicants. The Digital Follow Ups project has been selected based on their ambition and positive impact that the project has on patients.

The Digital Outpatient Project at NUH was initiated by East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN). EMAHSN had an ambition to support local Trusts in reducing face to face follow ups.

The initial pilot has been undertaken in three Clinical Specialties; Breast services, Oncology and Trauma & Orthopaedics. This has enabled the concept to be proved in both Medical and Surgical Specialties.

This project has improved patient experience by reducing the number of hospital visits, enabling patients to complete questionnaires at a time convenient to them, providing patients with more control and flexibility over their care and reducing stress and anxiety related to hospital appointments.

Lisa Lawrence, Paperless Hospital Programme Manager said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for Digitising Patient Services Initiative, recognising the collaborative efforts and dedication of our staff members over the last 12 months to successfully implement. We are committed to delivering improved outcomes for our patients, and to be chosen among the other incredible nominees is a wonderful achievement. This nomination recognises the importance of the project and has given the team a real boost.”

HSJ editor Alistair McLellan, commented: “We would like to congratulate Nottingham University Hospitals on being nominated in the category of Digitising Patient Services Initiative ahead of this year’s 2019 HSJ awards. We are looking forward to welcoming them to the ceremony in November, to join us in recognising the very best achievements and innovations in the healthcare sector. The entrants this year have been of incredible calibre, and each of the finalists in this category have been chosen based on their outstanding commitment to excellence in healthcare.”
