"Caroline strives to provide compassionate, kind and considered care to children and their families going through some of the most difficult situations they may ever face." - Children's Palliative Care Nurse receives award

Here at Nottingham University Hospitals, we have over 17,000 staff and we’re passionate about celebrating and recognising their achievements. We are very pleased to formally announce some of the Winners and Highly Commended staff so far in our NEW Team NUH Awards programme.

Caroline, our Children's Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist has received a High Commendation for a Team NUH Award, for living our Trust value.

In her exceptionally challenging role, supporting families and children in the toughest of circumstances at end of life, she consistently demonstrates kindness and compassion and delivers on her promises. This has seen her receive three nominations for the Team NUH Trust Award and a High Commendation in response.

Caroline has had a remarkable impact, having only been in her current role at Nottingham Children’s Hospital since 2019. Speaking of her award, she said:

“Thank you so much to those who nominated me it means huge, huge amounts. It feels amazing, it’s absolutely not why I do the job but it’s so lovely to be recognised I guess and I feel really valued. It sounds a bit cheesy but I’m just one tiny bit of the people delivering amazing care to children in palliative care, the wider team and everyone involved can share in the feeling of pride I have this morning.”

Our Consultant Paediatricians said:

At the bleakest of times Caroline manages to navigate the extraordinarily complex emotional and logistical challenges. She is a remarkable asset to our team, yet consistently humble and refuses to accept praise. This award is a wonderful way to tell her how much impact she is having, and how much she is appreciated.”

Caroline strives to provide compassionate, kind and considered care to children and their families going through some of the most difficult situations they may ever face. Her selfless kindness and support to children with life limiting conditions and their families and the staff looking after them is inspiring.”

End of life care for children is obviously emotional, and Caroline demonstrates such deep compassion at all times. She will sensitively and respectfully work with families for months, often prior to the end of life phase, respectfully listening and kindly explaining why a palliative care plan may be the best option for their child.”

Big congratulations to Caroline on receiving such incredible recognition from her peers, and the families that she has supported in her time.
