A RECORD YEAR - over 1,100 nominations for staff, volunteers & fundraisers at Nottingham’s hospitals

Over 1,100 staff, volunteers and fundraisers have been recognised for going the extra mile and delivering exceptional care to patients and their families at Nottingham’s Hospitals in what has been a record year for award nominations.

NUHonours Awards are annual awards to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contributions of staff, volunteers and fundraisers across Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham City Hospital and Ropewalk House, which are managed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH).

Patient, Travis who was treated at Nottingham City Hospital’s Burns Unit earlier this year nominated the Nottingham Burn’s Unit for the Team of the Year Award. He said: “In June, I got caught in a bad bonfire. Emily was fantastic; so understanding and caring to me and my worried family I wish all nurses and doctors was like her. She made sure everything was done correct and on time and I am now on a road to recovery. I’m ready to tackle my next challenge of chemotherapy thanks to Emily and the burns unit.”

And 2018 has been a record-breaking year with over 1,100 nominations for staff, volunteers and fundraisers in 19 categories, ranging from Volunteer of the Year to Team of the Year with a few new additional categories including: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award and Apprentice of the Year Award – recognising everyone who makes up Team NUH.

Dr Mun Poon from the Elective Orthopaedics Team at QMC has been nominated for the Caring and Helpful Award by the family of patient who sadly passed away after being diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer.

Susan said: “Right from the beginning my mother and all of us were impressed by Dr Poon. His professionalism, care and compassion were greatly appreciated by my mother. I remember vividly how he broke the bad news to my mother in my presence. He held her hand, comforting her and gave her all his attention. He listened to my mother and I, carefully responding to our concerns in a sensitive manner.

“We were saddened by the loss of my mother in such a short time. Our pain was eased by having such an amazing doctor who truly cares for his patients.”

NUHonours Awards are possible thanks to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
