24 Hours in A&E Episode 4 - The Unforeseen
Episode 4 of 24 Hours in A&E, filmed at the Queen’s Medical Centre, airs on Tuesday 24 January, 9pm, on Channel 4.
The RTS award-winning documentary's new home, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, is one of the busiest A&E departments in Europe.
This episode follows the stories of a woman as she tells us what it's like to be married to a man with two very different careers, a young man dealing with the physical consequences from a historic stab wound and a mother coming to terms with her daughter’s behaviour.
20-year-old Peta came off her motorbike leaving her with a suspected bleed on the brain. As Doctors work to uncover the extent of her injuries,we hear from her mother Nikki, about the struggles she went through raising a child who could lose her temper easily and lash out. Peta was eventually diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD.
21-year-old Callum has a badly prolapsed stoma which may need an operation to fix. As a doctor tries to get the stoma back into Callum’s torso, we hear from staff at the hospital who recall when Callum came into resus a couple of years earlier with a single stab wound that changed his life forever.
44-year-old Libby has come into A&E having been hit in the face with a stick playing hockey. She narrates her own story of how her life changed when her professional footballer husband took on an entirely new career path.
We also hear Dr Amanjeet Dahaley's story, a Major Trauma Fellow at NUH.
