Prof Sue Hignett (of Loughborough University & the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, CIEHF) presents the White Paper published in October 2018 from CIEHF that describes the purpose and value of integrating Human Factors science and practice in the health and social care system.
Overview
Human Factors is the science and professional practice applied by many safety critical industries to understand and improve system performance and staff well-being. Health and Social Care has lagged behind other industries in embedding Human Factors within its education and training activities, leadership development pathways, and the wider system transformation and improvement programmes. This presentation describes the role of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors and outlines it’s White Paper published in October 2018 on how Human Factors can and should influence how we work in health and social care.
A series of short case studies are also available separately which describe specific Human Factors projects that address how we investigate patient safety incidents, design our protocols and guidelines, and improve the work environment and technologies on which we rely to care for patients safely and effectively.
