Paediatric team top the league

Paediatric team top the league

Nottingham Children's Hospital's paediatric diabetes team has been named the best in England and Wales.

The team has topped the table in a national audit and been praised for its hard work and dedication to patient care.

NUH's paediatric diabetes department has risen up the rankings year after year and Dr Louise Denvir, the Lead Diabetologist working in the paediatric department, said the team was thrilled with the news.

She said: "We're really happy with the results the team has come out with and it's the culmination of many, many hours of hard work and dedication from everyone involved.

"There's a number of reasons for these good results; one is every team member'stotal commitment to our shared goals."

The team had the best results in England and Wales in the most recent National Paediatric Diabetes Audit. It scores the performance on a number of factors including a patient's average blood glucose (HbA1c) levels and risk of diabetes related complications.

Louise said the team hoped to build on this success but say they still face a number of challenges.

She said: "The team really embrace innovation, research, new technologies and diverse ways of working.

"At NUH, we are looking to become a national leader in paediatric and young adult diabetes care, with the aim of improving the health, educational and employment outcomes of all children and young people with diabetes,  both now and in the longer term."

The team are now focusing on improvements for those young adults who transition to adult services and children from more challenging backgrounds where controlling their diabetes can be harder.

Jonathan Evans, the Director of the Family Health Division, said: "We're all very proud of what the team has achieved and the difference they are making to patients in Nottingham."
