Children's Hospital Preceptorship and Rotation
At NUH we strive to continue to improve the supportive environment for our newly-qualified staff to develop confidence and skills during their preceptorship period and also offer preceptorship to staff who are re-joining acute care.
Our Preceptorship Programme offers you:
- The option to go straight to your preferred area or to join our rotation program – our rotation is flexible and will be unique to you (see below for more information on rotation and the PCCU Foundation Course)
- A one year program of study days and courses that have been built to reflect the needs of a newly qualified practitioner, including a one week Acute Care Skills Foundation Programme, Clinical Supervision and development days focusing on Leadership and future career options.
- Support and coaching from the Children’s Preceptorship and Development Nurses, an allocated support network in your ward and an in built system of peer support.
- Six months formal Preceptorship as well as informal Preceptorship for up to 18 months.
- A Preceptorship development pathway to work through during your first year. This tracks your achievements, competencies, courses completed, meetings with your preceptor and feedback received in your preceptorship year.
- There is the opportunity to join the our Shared Governance councils from the beginning – become a part of the Newly-Qualified Forum and represent the voice of newly-qualified staff at NUH. For more information please contact NQForum@nuh.nhs.uk
