If you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) – a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of smell or taste (anosmia) – the advice is to stay at home for 10 days. All members of this household should remain at home for 14 days.

Butterfly technique training course

We have now developed a bespoke butterfly technique training course to provide individuals already trained in venepuncture with the additional skills and knowledge to competently and safely utilise the BD butterfly equipment.

Trainees will receive a wealth of knowledge and experience from one of our senior phlebotomy team. 

 

Course programme 

  • An hour of supervised 'dry lab' practice on a plastic training arm.
  • 3 hours of 1:1 supervised practical training to bleed live patients within the QMC or City blood taking room.
  • Certificate of competency in venepuncture using the BD butterfly technique - attained on live patients. This certificate will be valid for a period of one year from the date of successfully achieving the 10th competency using the butterfly technique
