Annual competency renewal course

Having previously attended and passed our venepuncture training course you will have first hand experience of how our training is able to expand your skills and develop both your competence and confidence in completing the venepuncture procedure on real live patients.

We believe that regular re-assessment of the skills gained during your initial training is key in ensuring the continued safety of both you and the patients you care for. This is why your certificate of competence expires one year from the date you achieved your final competency with us.

Our annual competency renewal is designed to assess and ensure continued high level standard venepuncture procedures are being carried out and your skills have been adequately maintained. Those who are able to successfully demonstrate this during re-assessment will be issued with a competency certificate valid for a further one year period.

Course programme

  • Short review with your trainer of the experience and use of acquired skill over the last 12 months as well as an opportunity to ask any questions
  • Completion of a competency assessment utilsing the existing framework as will have been used during your previous training and subsequent sign off. This assessment will be completed in a live patient environment with full 1:1 support.
  • Once 10 competencies have been successfully completed, we will issue a further Certificate of Competence in Venepuncture - attained on live patients which will be valid for a period of one year.

This 1:1 session will last for a maximum of 4 hours and cost £75
