Sexual Health

The department of Sexual Health and HIV (GU Medicine) is situated at the City Hospital campus in Nottingham.

It is a confidential consultant-led service providing specialist information, advice, counselling, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

Your GP or other healthcare professional may refer you to our clinic however; the service is open access meaning you do not need to seen by anyone else before attending.

Clinic attendance is confidential and is not discussed with anyone else without your consent. This includes your GP. GU Medicine records are kept separate from other hospital and medical records.

Services offered

  • Diagnosis and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
  • HIV infection-testing and management
  • Other genital conditions
  • Partner notification and contact tracing
  • Contraception advice
  • Emergency contraception
  • Counselling and referral for pregnancy options
  • Hepatitis vaccination
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis after sexual exposure to HIV (PEPSE)
  • Testing for STIs after sexual assault/rape
  • Consultation, tests and treatment are free
  • Pick up point for C Card

Access to the building is through automatic doors.

There are disabled access toilets and a lift.

Language line and Interpreting Services available.

You are more than welcome to attend the City Hospital clinic without an appointment however; you may have to wait a while to be seen.

Making/changing/ cancelling appointments

Appointments can be made, changed or cancelled by ringing main reception / appointments line.
You are welcome to bring a friend or relative with you to your appointment but regardless of your age, you will always be offered the opportunity to be seen alone. We are usually able to accommodate requests to be seen by male or female staff at the City Hospital GU site. 

Locations

The clinic is situated at Gate 2 of the City Hospital, on Hucknall Road. There is limited Pay and Display parking on site, including disabled spaces, but public transport is recommended.

  • Nottingham City Transport Brown Line services 15, 16 and 17 run every 10-20 minutes
  • L53 runs every 30 minutes from Arnold/Clifton
  • 40 runs every 15 minutes from St Anns
  • Free Medilink Service runs every 10 minutes 8am-6pm from QMC via Wilkinson Street Park and Ride
