Patient safety is a key priority for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. In recent years NUH staff and patients have demonstrated their commitment to engage with national patient safety initiatives and improvement programmes, and the organisation has become recognised as a leader in a number of these areas.

This year the 3rd NUH Patient Safety Conference raised staff awareness further about the current national and local priorities in relation to patient safety whilst also providing an opportunity to share some of the excellent work that has been implemented successfully or developed more thoroughly at each campus of NUH.

This year around 160 NUH staff, patient and public representatives , medical students and colleagues from across the region attended the conference.

Keynote presentations from several external speakers provided opportunity for clinicians and practitioners attending from all of the Clinical Directorates to learn about how patient safety issues are currently being addressed on a national scale.

A series of parallel smaller group sessions in the afternoon presented in more detail how various key programmes of work are being implemented across NUH. These provided a more interactive opportunity for attendees to ask questions of our local experts and champions and share their own experiences on these issues from the different directorate perspectives.

A poster exhibition was be held throughout the day to display specific initiatives that different staff groups have initiated or completed within the Trust already. Dr Ivan Le Jeune was awarded first prize (post-qualified staff) for "?PE - a pathway" and Miss Eva Patel was awarded first prize in student submissions "Open School Nottingham: Starting from Scratch".
