A Centre for Excellence for Education and Learning in Simulation and Clinical Skills

Trent Simulation & Clinical Skills Centre

TSCSC Trent Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre is based on the QMC Campus of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in Nottingham, UK.

It is a training and education facility that specialises in clinical skills, human factors, and patient safety training for multiprofessional teams at undergraduate and post qualification levels and is the regional centre for advanced patient simulation in the East Midlands.

We develop and deliver training that looks at the organisational issues of the multiprofessional workforce with particular emphasis on teams, leadership, attitudes and communication between and amongst healthcare professionals.

Courses incorporate the use of both advanced human patient simulators (manikins) and simulated patients (actors) as appropriate and take place within a realistic simulated clinical environment and feature video and debriefing of course participants.

TSCSC is also a national centre for surgical skills including:
  • Basic Surgical Skills (Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh)
  • Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical training (MAESTrO)
  • National Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Programme

We also support a range of resuscitation courses including APLS (advanced paediatric life support) and GIC (Generic Instructors Course).

We have a developing research programme and are currently undertaking joint research studies with academic partners. Research interests include human factors, patient safety, predicting performance and educational outcomes.

We welcome enquiries about our course activities and are interested in exploring collaborative and partnership working in audit and research.

If you are thinking of planning an event or course at the centre please take the time and download this form as this should answer some of the questions you might have and give us a better understanding of what you require Course planning worksheet.

The course will look at the immediate management of the patient, communication, teamwork and organisation skills, all this in an environment akin to the dental surgery. The simulator allows the team to rehearse events that could happen in the dental surgery.
